School

Established in 2009 as the only Dhol School in North London, London School of Dhol opened its doors to the local community to introduce Dhol to everyone that is interested in taking part in the musical industry.

London School of Dhol are committed in providing students of all abilities with the chance to learn and show their true potential. We aim to give our students all they need to become a professional Dhol player. The school is a non profit making organisation where the student fees are put back into the organisation to help maintain its admin and marketing costs.

What We Offer – Our Classes
At London School of Dhol we offer classes for Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced and Professional levels. Organised and managed by The DHOL Company, London School of Dhol promises to deliver a high level of teaching in a structured, professional and welcoming environment. We follow a scripted syllabus with all of our students which covers a wide range of traditional and western style beats.

We have multiple rooms to accommodate students at different levels and involving them in large and small group sessions and we have dedicated rooms for one to one teaching.

We teach students how to count music, play in rhythm and timing. Our students are examined and assessed throughout their time in the school to ensure they are making progress while also enabling the tutors to identify areas which require further attention.
We apply a grading system, whereby students are examined at the end of each grade to assess whether we feel they are ready to move onto the next level.

Once a level is completed we take our students through an intense training session to help build stamina, power and prepare them to become a performer. Our classes are held on weekdays and weekends to give everyone with other commitments an opportunity to be a part of the Dhol School.

What We Offer – NextGen Program
The students are also given the opportunity to become teachers and take classes and become a leader within the organisation through our NextGen Program. This is a journey in which students are selected based on their performance, commitment and attitude in the school and are then given an opportunity to show their leadership skills. They will be part of a team of senior members where they will learn to teach and manage students. We feel this is an important part of our organisation as we are looking at the future of London School of Dhol and we believe that by empowering our own students they will grow into being stronger minded individuals with team building and leadership skills which will help them in the future. When a student gets to this level they will be given more intense lessons and training.

What We Offer – Our Performances
Students are given a chance to perform at charity and community events as well as parties and functions. During the wedding season we also offer work experience to all our students where they can join our professional Dhol players at a private function and engage in the performances. This participation allows students to experience what it is like to be a Dhol player and also boost their confidence by allowing them to envision how it feels to play in front of a crowd. Most importantly their involvement gives them an insight as to what level they need to aim for to become a professional Dhol player.

London School of Dhol is officially the only Dhol School in the UK that offers the best value for money. We have the best teaching structure in place and we welcome all abilities, whether you are someone that has never played the Dhol before and want to learn or someone who has experience and would like to improve your skills and performance ability.
